Glossary GL-9 national special security event. A designated event that, by virtue of its political, economic, social, or religious significance, may be the target of terrorism or other criminal activity. Also called NSSE. (DOD Dictionary. Weapon, device, or munition that is explicitly designed and primarily employed to incapacitate personnel or materiel immediately, while minimizing fatalities, permanent injury to personnel, and undesired damage to property in the target area or environment. The federal department or agency assigned primary responsibility for managing and coordinating a specific emergency support function in the National Response Framework. (DOD Dictionary. A standing facility that is activated to coordinate regional response efforts until a joint field office is established and/or the principal federal official or coordinating officer can assume their National Response Framework coordination responsibilities.
