Role of the Staff Judge Advocate Due to the complexity and extent of international law considerations involved in the joint targeting cycle, the SJA or their representative must be immediately available and should be consulted at all levels of command to provide advice about law of war compliance during planning and execution of exercises and operations. Early involvement by the SJA will improve the targeting process and can prevent possible violations of international or domestic law.
