Air Force Doctrine Publication 3-60, Targeting 39 Analysts across the agency directly support joint targeting efforts by performing foundational military intelligence, all-source analysis, and production to support target development, target material production, and assessment, center in Washington, DC, also maintains two specialized centers, the Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC) and the National Center for Medical Intelligence (NCMI). Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC) provides worldwide scientific and technical intelligence concerning threat guided missile systems, directed energy weapons, selected space programs or systems, and related command, control, and communications to support operationally deployed forces. MSIC has experts knowledgeable on surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), systems as well as short-range ballistic missiles. National Center for Medical Intelligence (NCMI) produces finished, all-source medical intelligence in support of military planning and operations. It prepares assessments, forecasts, and databases on worldwide infectious disease occurrence, global environmental health risks, foreign military and civilian healthcare capabilities and trends, and militarily significant life science technologies. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is the primary national producer of GEOINT, which is the exploitation and analysis of imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess, and visually depict physical features and geographically referenced activities on the Earth. NGA’s analysts assist in federated target development and assessment using GEOINT analytical techniques and technologies, controlled source material, and refined mensuration techniques and data. NGA contributes to military operations by supplying the intelligence, mission-specific datasets, and foundational data to support targeting. NGA also produces many of the maps and charts Airmen use. National Security Agency (NSA) is a combat support agency that employs mathematicians, linguists, engineers, and computer scientists focusing on SIGINT and information assurance. NSA’s employees collect, process, analyze, and exploit adversaries’ communications to better understand adversary capabilities, actions, and intent. NSA maintains its HQ at Fort Meade, Maryland, and has four cryptologic centers, each with a regional focus. Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is a combat support agency charged with providing cross-cutting solutions to enable the DoW, the US Government, and international partners to: deter strategic attacks against the United States and its allies, prevent, reduce, and counter WMD and emerging threats, and prevail against WMD-armed adversaries in crisis and conflict.46 Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) gathers, analyzes, and produces most of the nation’s HUMINT. This type of intelligence may provide targeteers with information unavailable through other collection methods, which may be particularly important for terrorist organizations with distributed networks and limited physical infrastructure.
