Live and Let Chai, Part 1
[Music] [Applause] hello everyone welcome to the well and garden club a new series by the s2 underground that showcases gadgets technology and tutorials for building any equipment that you need when conducting operations so let's head out to the potting shed and check out the first bit of kit one of the most inconspicuous pieces of gear that you can carry with you is the classic stanley vacuum bottle also known colloquially as a thermos it may seem a bit outdated or unfashionable or the ultimate dad beverage container but this particular thermos holds more secrets than coffee this is a custom made portable diversion safe invented and developed in-house for a very specific purpose namely to allow an individual to carry certain equipment with them in most urban environments and not arouse suspicion this is not as easy as one might think for one any sort of bag backpack satchel purse fanny pack or other fabric container is a prime target for theft in most places around the world it is not a good idea to set down a bag in an easily accessible area for fear of theft no matter how grey man you try to be bags draw the eye for many reasons and one of those reasons is because they are a com
ible area for fear of theft no matter how grey man you try to be bags draw the eye for many reasons and one of those reasons is because they are a common place to store weapons and other equipment as such we went with a diversion safe design not one single person on earth with the exception of people who watch this video will look at a stanley thermos and instinctively think nefarious in most cases if someone were to see a stanley thermos they wouldn't even think steel either so this works out quite well from the very start but it gets better most diversion safes on the commercial market are meant to be static most diversion safes are meant to emulate things that you would find in the home such as pantry goods wall clocks hollow books shelving things like that all of these things are great but they would look completely out of place when removed from their surroundings if you saw a person walking down the street carrying a wall clock or air conditioning vent in their hand not only would that immediately draw your attention but it would also arouse suspicion but a person carrying a thermos is so completely normal that it doesn't even draw a second glance even if carrying a large sta
d also arouse suspicion but a person carrying a thermos is so completely normal that it doesn't even draw a second glance even if carrying a large stanley thermos isn't the fashionable thing to do nowadays media television and movies over the years have solidified the thermos as an item that is synonymous with work so people look right past it and the absolute last thing on their minds would be that a thermos is secretly holding equipment also diversion safes could be made out of other items and materials for instance hollowed-out books make great diversion safes and they aren't too conspicuous to be seen carrying around however there are three main problems with using books as portable diversion safes for one if anyone were to open the book the jig is up secondly considering the contents it would be really suspicious if a book were to weigh 5 pounds and finally it would be a little odd if you were to carry around a book every day and never seem to be making any progress thus we settled on the stanley thermos as a good portable diversion safe it's naturally heavy in fact a thermos full of liquid is actually slightly heavier than a hollow thermos filled with equipment it is also sti
ion safe it's naturally heavy in fact a thermos full of liquid is actually slightly heavier than a hollow thermos filled with equipment it is also still able to be used to hold hot or cold liquids albeit in much smaller quantities just enough liquid can be stored in the top of the thermos so that if someone were to come across it and open the lid they would see that it's full of liquid or at least it would seem to be the particular press-fit closing mechanism that we settled on for the bottom is also quite strong so strong that even when full of equipment one cannot shake the lid open you would actually have to press quite strongly on the sides to wiggle it open this ensures that again someone cannot open the thermos accidentally even if someone is searching for a way to open it and as far as camouflage one would actually have to think pretty hard to find an urban environment or a situation in which it is suspicious to be seen carrying a stanley thermos now of course this diversion safe has its downsides for one it's most certainly not a quick deploy system most equipment that we have tested in the thermos has to be disassembled and stored in a rolled up fabric case so as to not ra
t a quick deploy system most equipment that we have tested in the thermos has to be disassembled and stored in a rolled up fabric case so as to not rattle around so it's not going to be a very quick access item also there are circumstances where the thermos would seem odd like on a hot summer day at the beach even though vacuum bottles can store cold liquids as well in some areas it wouldn't look completely normal or natural to be carrying a thermos and of course this isn't the type of device to carry with you at all times it would look a bit odd to be seen carrying your thermos to the bathroom or an important business meeting but if you need a place to covertly store equipment and carry it with you through a not so permissive environment a custom-made stanley thermos diversion safe might be a great option for you so stick around for part 2 where we will show you exactly how to build one of your own [Music] [Applause] you
