During dynamic targeting, on-call, unscheduled, and unanticipated targets are prosecuted using the condensed process of find, fix, track, target, engage, and assess (F2T2EA). DELIBERATE VS DYNAMIC TARGET PROCESSES IN THE AIR TASKING CYCLE Although the dynamic targeting process occurs during the execution stage of the air tasking cycle, targets prosecuted by dynamic targeting are still processed through all six stages. The Deliberate vs Dynamic Targeting in Air Tasking Cycle diagram highlights the similarities and differences between the deliberate and dynamic targeting processes across target types and the air tasking cycle stages. The target type most associated with dynamic targeting is the unanticipated target. However, most targets prosecuted via dynamic targeting fall into the on-call or unscheduled target categories. On-call targets are included in the ATO along with the planned targets, but since the coordinates are unknown, no precise engagement time is listed. Unscheduled targets are developed similarly to on-call targets but do not meet the priority to make the ATO and are accounted for in planning in case they are detected (thus the change in doctrine from “unplanned” to “unscheduled” targets). Overall, both deliberate and dynamic targeting adhere to target development standards throughout the six stages of the air tasking cycle. However, during the dynamic targeting process, target development is accomplished with compressed timelines. Targets engaged through dynamic targeting may not be characterized to the same level of detail before prosecution as occurs with deliberate targeting.
